Homer "Rusty" Steele, Iii

Homer Russell "Rusty" Steele III, of Helena, AL passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at the age of 66. Rusty was born on August 8, 1955 and was raised in the mountains of West Virginia. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1977 with a degree in geology. Rusty worked for US Steel his entire career as an environmental engineer. He retired in 2016 after 38 years service. Rusty was an active member of Canaan Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School. His faith was central to everything in his life. Rusty's first love was his family. He loved investing his time in his children and grandchildren. Rusty's love for the outdoors, rocks and clocks was known by all his friends and family. He will be missed by all. He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer R. Steele, Jr. and June Harris Steele.

He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Steele; 2 sons, Jonathan Steele (Joy) and Max Steele (Alyssa); daughters, Jessica Booth (Adam), Savannah Turman (Jonathan), Meri Cashion and Olivia Bondurant; grandchildren, Gwen, Gabe, Evalyn, Hudson, Emmett, Tura  Belle, Judge, Eleanor, Waylon, Archer and Walker. 2 sisters, Libby Steele and Terri Casdorph (David); an aunt, Judy Harris; and a nephew, Jason Spencer.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Hwy. 150 in Hoover. Funeral service will be on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Canaan Baptist Church on Morgan Road with Rev. Charles Teague officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South in Hoover. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Building Fund of Canaan Baptist Church.
