Hellon Hartley

December 12, 1929 — September 24, 2023

Hellon was born in Chelsea, AL, to Howard & Jewel Moore, on December 12, 1929. The middle child of three, (brother Roy & sister Madie) most of her early childhood was spent in the Montevallo area. As a teen, her family later moved to Morgan where she attended McAdory High School.

As a result of a blind date, Hellon met her true love on Christmas Day 1949. She quickly realized Ruffus "Miles" Hartley was the man of her dreams. The couple married on May 20, 1951, and remained lovers and best friends for 66 years. Together they raised three children: Michael, Sherry Denise, and Jeff (Lani).

Miles and Hellon had 3 grandchildren; Mandy Partacz (Dustin), Miles Hartley, and Dylan Tyler (Sara Catherine); three great grandchildren Ryland Partacz, Montgomery Tyler, and Alice Tyler.

Hellon achieved high levels of success in her professional career. She served for years as Fuel Tax Coordinator with Eagle Motor Lines and Bagley Trucking. Hellon and her husband Miles opened Gorin's Ice Cream & Deli. The iconic restaurant was a local favorite on the southside of Birmingham, AL in the 1980's and 90's. They received many awards and ranked "Birmingham's Best" year after year.

Hellon was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Miles. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister, nephews, and extended family.

On a personal note, our mom led by example and loved with all her heart! She was not only our mother, but also a dear friend. Our hearts ache with her passing but take joy that she is in a better place, reunited with our father, and praising her Lord!
