Helen Parkman Land, 94, of Hoover died after a short illness on Friday, January 12, 2024. She was born November 29, 1929 to Alice Cannon and Joseph Brown Parkman in Phenix City, Alabama and raised on the family farm in Russell County. After attending Huntingdon College, she married her high school sweetheart, James Edward Land, in Seale, Alabama in 1948. Helen loved people, travel and entertaining. She had a great curiosity about life and the world. In later years, she developed a deep love for reading and appreciated the wonderful resources of the library. Her positive, encouraging, and fun spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
Helen is predeceased by her parents; her daughter, Linda Alice Land, her husband, and her sister and brothers and their spouses. She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Gary) West of Huntsville, Alabama and her son Ed (Allyson) Land of Decatur, Alabama; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many friends and other relatives.
Visitation for Helen will be Saturday, January 20, 10:00 a.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home with service and committal to follow at 11:00 a.m. Officiated by Rev. Eric Roberts. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the First Baptist Church of Hoover, or Hoover Public Library.
