Helen Callahan Kress, 96, peacefully passed in her sleep on 7-7-2023. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 7-18-1926, she was the daughter of Daniel and Francis Callahan and was raised in Bellevue. Helen was a graduate of St. Benedict Acadamy.
She is survived by her son Mark A. Kress (Libbie), Sylacauga, Al.
By her granddaughter, Celia Mayben (Scott), grandsons, Geoffrey Foltin (Jenny) and Jonathan Kress (Nicole) and great grandsons, Stephen and Patrick Foltin and Lucas Mayben.
She is preceded by Roy A. Kress, her husband of 61 years, daughters Katherine Kress Buono and Nancy Kress Foltin. Brothers, Daniel and Richard Callahan, Sisters, Rosemary Callahan, Patricia Post, Joan Unkovic and Regina Auth. She dearly loved her brothers and sisters; they stayed close their entire lives.
Roy and Helen Kress were members of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, in Hoover Alabama. They drew strength from their Roman Catholic faith, and it sustained them all their married lives.
Helen was a homemaker, she created wonderful homes in their various stops in life from Roy's career in the steel industry. In the Pittsburgh area (North Hills and Allison Park), Wheeling, WV. Highland, IN. Boardman, OH. Chatham, NJ, and finally Hoover, AL.
She loved cross stitching and reading. Had a green thumb, if she got a clipping of a plant, it would be eventually put in a pot, and they always grew and flowered.

Visitation at Price of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover, Alabama on July 13, 2023, at 10:00 am followed by funeral mass at 11:00 am. A private burial will be held at Currie-Jefferson Cemetery.
