Harvey M Gilliam Jr.

Mike Gilliam, age 79, of Springville AL, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024. Mike was born October 16, 1945, in Birmingham, AL and loved living in the great state of Alabama (Roll Tide). At the age of 20, Mike faithfully served his country for 4 years as part of the Naval Construction Force (Seabees), including 2 tours in Vietnam, earning multiple medals during his time in the Navy.

Mike was the last surviving member of his family, having been preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and a sister. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Peggy Tipton Gilliam.

He is survived by his 2 daughters, Karen Waters (husband Larry) and Christi Gilliam, 2 stepsons, Steven Tipton (wife Tracey) and Barry Tipton. Mike enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Corey Waters, Kayla Kailey (husband Ryan), their daughter Caroline, Chelsea Tipton, her 2 children Olivia Denton and Carter Denton, and Ryan Tipton.

A graveside service and burial, with full Navy Honors, will take place at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL on Friday, December 13th at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to St Jude, in memory of Mike Gilliam.
