Harriet Rankin

April 11, 1944 — July 3, 2009

passed on to heaven on July 3, 2009. Harriet was born on April 11, 1944 in Mobile Alabama to Walter "PO" Davis and Anna Davis. She attended the University of Montevallo where she studied Psychology and Modern dance. After graduation Harriet worked for the State of Alabama Employment Office for more than 20 years until her illness MS forced her to retire early. She never missed a day of work. Harriet has left behind her husband, Col. (ret) Paul Rankin Jr.; best friend, Sandy Rankin; step daughters, Debbie Rankin, Peggy Rankin Williamson and Cindy Rankin; two grandsons; two grandaughters; as well as many Birmingham friends who meant so much, and were so important in her later life, Jill Stalnaker and Paula Jones from her church, Discovery UMC to name a few. Harriet Rankin will always be remembered for her sense of humor, independance and love of animals. We hope she is, again, with her favorite dog "Andy Bob". During her years of battling MS, Harriet required many caregivers. The Rankin family would like to extend our thanks to those individuals for their care and thoughtfulness. Special thanks to Gay Nell Allen who was more like a family member and so loved by Harriet. Dance Harriet, we know you can now . . . The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy. 150, Hoover. Graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the MS society or your local animal shelter.
