Harland White

Harland Landy White, 90, resident of Fort Walton Beach, Fl., passed away at Belvedere Commons Assisted Living on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 with family by his side. He was born on Oct. 6, 1923 to Charles and Katie White in Birmingham Ala. He was the youngest of 7 children. He married Eunice Hallmark on Jan. 4, 1947 in Birmingham.
After serving proudly in the US Navy for 3 years during WWII, he returned to Birmingham where he worked at Liberty Motors. He then worked for the US Postal Service until his retirement. He enjoyed restoring automobiles and loved to go fishing, hunting, and traveling with family and friends. His favorite colors were Crimson and Houndstooth, "Roll Tide".
He was active in the growth of the Churches of Christ in the Birmingham area. He was one of the founding members of Hoover Church of Christ and served as an elder there. He and Eunice developed many lifelong relationships there. In 1999 he moved to Fort Walton Beach and became a member of the Fort Walton Beach Church of Christ. He was a faithful servant of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He genuinely loved being around people.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years, Eunice White and his son, Harland Landy White Jr. He is survived by his second wife, Mary Evelyn White of Kingwood, Texas; his daughter Wanda White McAllister and husband Charles; granddaughter Brooke M. Shands and husband Jerry; granddaughter Amy E. McAllister and her fiancé Collin Derrick; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 10 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11a.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, Alabama.
The family would like to express our deepest appreciation for the love and care given to Harland by the staff of Belvedere Commons and Emerald Coast Hospice.
