of Hoover, passed away on February 20, 2008 at St. Vincent’s Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born on Feb. 16, 1921 in Terre Haute, Indiana, Hal is preceded in death by his parents James and Nema Edwards and his brother Billy Edwards. In 1938 he joined the Army Air Corps and served in the European Theatre during WWII. Upon his return home he met his lovely wife of 61 years, Gertrude "Trudie". Hal and Trudie elected a career in the Air Force and together they explored the world and raised a family of three children. Hal was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Shriner’s Philae Temple in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland. Survivors include his wife, Trudie; a sister-in-law Goldia Edwards of Danville, Illinois; his daughter, Beth Garner (Jim) of Hoover; his sons, Hal Edwards (Trinka) of Tampa and Jim Edwards (Marta) of Miami; a granddaughter Janna Lowery (Jeff); grandsons Jeff Garner, Evan Edwards, David Edwards and Travis Edwards; and great grandsons, Brandtley and Braxton Lowery The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 24, 2008 from noon to 2:00 pm at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy. 150, Hoover. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Co-pastors Edd and Mary Pat Spencer from First Christian Church of Valleydale Road, Birmingham officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South with full military honors. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the First Christian Church Library Fund.
