Gwendolyn Marcell Studdard Kimbrell, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2023 at the age of 95. Gwen was born and grew up in the small farming community of Studdard's Crossroads near Carbon Hill, Alabama. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Gwen and Charles moved to the big city of Birmingham where they had 74 years of marriage and raised their 3 sons.
Gwen loved to sew and kept an immaculate home while being team mother for her sons' many sports activities. She loved her family and enjoyed babysitting grandchildren even into her nineties. She was generous, friendly and outgoing and had more friends than one could count. Her sisters were her very best friends, however, and she held them close to her heart.
Gwen will be remembered as a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
Gwen is survived by her sons, John Kimbrell (Sandra) and Tim Kimbrell; her daughter-in-law, Pam Kimbrell; her grandchildren, Ashley Hogland (James), Brad Kimbrell (Christie), Lana Cole (Kevin), Leia Kimbrell, Linsey Kimbrell, Lauren Kimbrell, Taylor Kimbrell (Nicole); her great grandchildren, Cross Hogland, Meredith Hogland, Sean Kimbrell, Brooklyn Kimbrell, Camden Kimbrell; her sisters, Jackie Ramsbacher (Bob) and Tallulah DeMarco; brother Hoyt Studdard (Margaret); and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Kimbrell; her son, Mike Kimbrell; her parents, Willie Mae and Dewey Studdard; her sister Sue Gallups; her brothers Ray Studdard and Claudie Ray Studdard; her sister-in-law Lynn Studdard.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 31 at 11am at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo. While the cemetery limits the number of floral arrangements permitted at gravesite, in lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to the UAB Department of Neurology Parkinson's Disease Research Fund or to a charity of your choice.
