Grady Hicks

Mr. Grady Ovid Hicks, of Hoover, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Friday, August 17, 2012. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Boone and Laura Merchant Hicks and his grandson, John Michael Thomas. Grady was born in Thomasville on November 6, 1928, but moved to Montevallo as a young child. He became active in the Hoover community and was a long time member of the Chase Lake Country Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Emily McGowan Hicks; his children, Eric Hicks (Judy) of Pell City, Lisa Thomas (Mike) of Montevallo and Keith Hicks (Jane) of Vestavia; his grandchildren, Ellen Thomas, Mac Thomas, Kelly Hicks, and Laura Hicks. He also is survived by his brother, Roy Hicks, and sisters, Laura Norris and Becky Estes. Grady was a former member of Green Valley Baptist Church. He was a member of Riverchase United Methodist Church and active in the Seekers Sunday School class. He served honorably in the U.S. Army and received his degree in accounting from his beloved Auburn University (A.P.I.). Grady served as the accountant for Hendon and Company until his retirement in 1988. He always had a great love for Auburn Football and playing golf, but the most important things in his life was his love of Christ and his wonderful family. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Riverchase United Methodist Church at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at the Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Riverchase United Methodist Building Fund or Bruno Cancer Center.
