Gordon Mcbryde

March 26, 1924 — March 9, 2005


of Bessemer, passed away March 9, 2005, at the age of 80. Gordon attended the University of Alabama, and he enjoyed a career with several U. S. government agencies, including service in World War II, with the U. S. Army Air Force. He was retired for the past 26 years, and enjoyed activities in retirement, including gardening, travel, and bowling. Gordon was active in several bowling leagues, and passed away shortly after bowling in his weekly league with a final game score of 222. His family greatly appreciates the staff at Brunswick Riverview Lanes for their assistance Wednesday afternoon. Gordon attended Shades Crest Baptist Church for over 30 years with his family. He was an active member of his Sunday School Class, and enjoyed the friendship of many in the Bluff Park Community, where his children grew up. His membership, however, was with the Methodist church in Covington County. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Wilford McBryde. He was raised by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Rufus McBryde in Covington County, Alabama. Gordon is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dell McBryde; one son, Gordon McBryde, Jr. (Sheree); one daughter, Shere Rucker (Richard); and a sister, Sara Jordan (Aaron). He was also blessed with three wonderful grandchildren, Phillip and Mary Beth McBryde, and Katie Rucker. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 12, 2005 from 12:30 pm to 2 pm. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150, Hoover. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shades Crest Baptist Church Building Fund or to the American Heart Association.
