Gladys Walker

August 21, 1926 — May 17, 2016


Mrs. Gladys Evelyn Walker, of Birmingham, AL passed away on May 17, 2016, at the age of 89. Gladys graduated from both Howard College in Birmingham and The Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY. She used her training to be the wife and ministry partner of her beloved husband, Arthur. She was active in the Women’s Missionary Union of Alabama and taught classes for pastor’s wives at Howard College. Gladys wanted to be remembered as someone who treated everyone the same no matter their background. She was loved by her family, friends, and the many she served. She was known for her beautiful smile and the way she could wake up singing. Gladys is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Arthur Walker, Jr., her son Gregory Arthur Walker, and many she loved- including her parents, siblings, and in-laws.

She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Hamby and son-in-law, Pat; grandchildren, Brent Hamby, Bryant Hamby, and Jennifer and Craig Pfister; sisters-in-law, Betty Walker and Sylvia Walker, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 21,2016, from 10AM-11AM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, AL. The service will follow at 11AM in the Chapel. Interment will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. Dr. Jim Barnett will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the Greg Walker Scholarship Fund at Samford University.
