Gladys Capps Harper went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 14, 2015. She was born in Birmingham, AL on May 20, 1921. Gladys grew up in College Hill, graduated from Phillips High School, and attended Howard College. She was a charter member of the First United Methodist Church in Birmingham where she accepted the Lord. Gladys married Mickey McGarvin Harper, Sr. on October 17, 1953. They lived in Midfield, AL with their 3 children. She was involved with the children’s ministry at Midfield Methodist Church with the Christmas program, missions presentations, children's music, and the adult choir. She served the Midfield community holding tennis clinics alongside her husband. She loved the neighborhood children and spent time teaching them to play tennis, putting on plays, cooking dinner, and sharing scriptures. Gladys was a devoted and loving wife and mother, always putting her family’s needs first.
Gladys is preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Myra Capps and Willis Lee Capps; her sister, Myra Lee Kingston; and her husband, Mickey Harper. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Pam and Randy Stembridge; Pat and Frank Thompson, and Mickey (Mac) and Sharon Harper, Jr; 12 Grandchildren and 17 Great-Grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-8, Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150 in Hoover. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at 10 AM in the funeral home chapel, Pastor Wayne Atchison. Interment will be in the Alabama National Cemetery.
