CURREN, GERTRUDE MAXWELL “Mama Gert”, of Bessemer passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the age of 99. Mrs. Curren was born in the Bessemer area on November 12, 1908. She was the daughterof the late Ross and Ida Maxwell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred James Curren; a grandson, William Maxwell Curren and many brothers and sisters. She is survived by her three children Betty Fowler Hartley of Bessemer, AL, James R. Curren (Jerri) of McCalla, AL, Mark H. Curren (Betty) of Bon Secure, AL; six grandchildren, James R. Curren, Jr. (Arlene), Sherrell Murphy (Pat), Pam Easterling (Carl), Judy Robertson, Don S. Norris (Sharon), Mark S. Curren; nine great-grandchildren, Carla Atchison, Michael Easterling, Ron Curren, James R. Curren III, David Patrick Murphy, Jessica Robertson, Lacy Davis, Victoria Curren and Christopher Curren; eight great-great-grandchildren and one namesake on the way in July and many nieces and nephews. She was a faithful long time member of Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 76 years. She influenced everyone with her Christian faith. She made many, many friends throughout her 99 years on this earth and will be missed by all. She was the very best mother that anyone could ever hope for and loving and supportive to all her family and friends. Her family will always treasure the special times they shared with her and she will never be forgotten. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Currie Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel, Highway 150, Hoover, AL. Chapel service will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Macedonia Cemetery at South Shades Crest Road.
