George Richard Creighton, Jr. TSGT USAF (Ret), of Vestavia Hills, AL passed away on May 13, 2019, at the age of 86. Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late, George Sr. and Louise Lennox Creighton. George graduated from Mount St. Charles Academy in Woonsocket, RI and St. Philips College in San Antonio, TX. He loved his country and retired from the Unites States Air Force after 23 years of active duty. George served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his meritorious service in Nha Trang, Vietnam. After retirement from the USAF, he worked for the U.S Government in General Services Administration and retired as Fleet Manager for the State of Mississippi. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Eva Ruth Clanton Creighton; and his stepson, Tommy Belcher. George is survived by his wife, Jeanette Mann Creighton of Vestavia Hills, AL; daughter, Glynis Burrow (Ray) of Vestavia Hills, AL; son, Kevin Creighton (Vicki) of Birmingham, AL; daughter-inlaw, Trudy Belcher of North Augusta, SC; sister, June Bogan of Bellingham, MA; grandchildren, Kealee Burrow (Greg Ellis) of Vestavia Hills, AL, Kimberly Paulsen (Karl) of Canton, GA, Derek Burrow (Amberly), Lauren Zauchin (Matt), Lindsey Patterson (Robert) of Birmingham, AL and Briggs Belcher of North Augusta, SC; 9 great grandchildren; and extended family, Alley Denmark of Washington D.C., Michael Denmark (Ashley) of Phenix City, AL, Ryan Denmark of Nashville, TN, Traci Crumpton and Teresa Ross (Randy) of Bessemer, AL, and Terri Mashburn (Hal) of Decatur, AL. George was an avid golfer, enjoyed stock car racing, football and baseball. He also loved his church, Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church. George was an active member of “HILLTOPPERS”, a senior program that met once a month. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 17, 2019, from 10 - 11 AM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150 in Hoover, AL. The service will follow in the Chapel at 11 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to George’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
