Gay Gonzales Negrette, affectionately known as "Mama Gay," transitioned peacefully from her earthly to her heavenly home on Thursday, January 14, 2016 in Birmingham, Alabama. She lived 83 years as a faithful Christian and spent her last 20 years as a resident of Gulf Breeze, Florida. Gay lived life to its fullest and was always young at heart. She was born April 21, 1932, in Kiln, Mississippi and was the loving daughter of the late Anita and Sidney Gonzales of Bay St Louis, Mississippi. Gay was married to the late Benny Negrette for 52 years. She was the cherished mother of Benjamin Negrette, Susan Bryant, Julie Shaddock, Lorraine Tragakis and Cydney Soares and was beloved by their spouses. Gay leaves behind eleven loving grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She is also survived by a sister and brother, Lottie Ladner and John Louis Gonzales; Gay was preceded in death by four older sisters: Margie Maloney, Maude Favre, Lois Miller and Grace Taylor. She was a devoted member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Gulf Breeze, Florida and adored her church family. She was a dedicated employee and retired from Walmart, Inc. All are invited to attend her Memorial Mass presided by Monsignor Luke Hunt on Monday, January 25, 2016, at 10:00 am, St. Ann Catholic Church, 100 Daniel St, Gulf Breeze, Florida. Family and friends will gather in the Parish Hall for luncheon from 11:00 – 12:30 pm. Gravesite services are at 1:20 pm at Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Road, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida 32508. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you please have Masses said on her behalf at any Catholic church or at http://www.maryprayforus.org/mass.html.
