Gary Donald Moore, 88, of Birmingham, AL, born on November 20,1931, transitioned to heaven on February 18, 2020 in Birmingham, AL. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 8, at 4 pm in the Galleria Woods Community Room. The sons of Gary and Ella Moore will be officiating. Burial will occur on Monday 9 at 10:15 AM at the Alabama National Cemetery.
Gary was born in Auburntown, Cannon County, TN to James Carmack and Amanda Corrine Moore on November 20, 1931. He graduated as Valedictorian from Auburn High School in 1949 and received his BA degree in Engineering from Eastern Michigan University in 1959. He worked for nine years at Burroughs Corporation and then 32 years as an engineer at Ford Motor Company. He and Ella devoted their lives to honoring and serving Jesus. Gary served in multiple ways over his almost nine decades – leading Bible studies, mentoring the next generation, leading people to Jesus, taking on leadership responsibilities as deacon and elder. He had a deep love for the Word of God and worked tirelessly for years as a leader in Gideon’s International, frequently taking his sons and grandchildren to Annual Gideon Conventions. He leaves a legacy of love through a multitude of lives touched by his deep love for people, insightful wisdom, and his practical teaching of the Word of God. Gary and Ella travelled to six continents doing mission work.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Carmack and Corrine, his sister, Lila Faye and his wife of 61 years, Ella.
He is survived by his sons Don (Cindy) Moore of Rowlett, TX, Eric (Cindy) Moore of Canton, MI, Kevin (Judi) Moore of Hoover, AL and Matthew (Cindy) Moore of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Megan (Joey) Williams, Lincoln (Alana) Hoey Moore, Brittany (Ryan) Gilmore, Mandi Moore, Joshua (Cassie) Moore, Jeremy (Maddie) Moore, Hunter Moore, Josiah Moore, Mikayla Moore and Jesse Moore: great grandchildren, Hudson, Griffin, Eowyn and Lucy.
