CODY, GARY PHILIP, of Hoover, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at the age of 55. To those who knew Gary best, he was a faithful husband, a loving father, a generous provider and protector, and a loyal friend with a great sense of humor. But more than anything, Gary was a man who was radically changed from the inside out when he met his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 6, 2000. He loved Jesus and was a man who did everything he could to show the people he loved how much he loved them. Gary spent his life serving those in need, and when he saw a need he did everything he could and would not be satisfied until it was met. Gary left a legacy his family is extremely proud of. He loved his family more than anything in the world because he was first loved by Jesus. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Gina; two sons, Michael and Tyler, both of Hoover; parents, Jim and Louise Coody of West Palm Beach, FL; brother, Jimmy Coody (Heidi) of Houston, TX; sister, Mervyl Sloan (Don) of West Palm Beach, FL; parents-in-law, Ernie and Josie Burgess of Hoover; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins . . . and many, many friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 from 6-8 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Highway 150, Hoover. A Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Shades Mountain Independent Church. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South, Harry Walls officiating. Donations may be made to Shades Mountain Independent Church or the Wales Goebel Ministry.
