Ganes Acton

Ganes Michael “Mike” Acton, 76, of Cahaba Heights, AL, passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2014. He attended Ramsay High School where he met the love of his life, Bartie Sue Moorhead Acton. They were married for 58-1/2 years. He was born and raised in New Merkle and was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. Mike was a talented carpenter working in various aspects of the construction industry. He was retired from the home construction building and remodeling business. His latest employment was with Acton Contractors, Inc., a father and son business. He was a Mason at Cahaba Heights Masonic Lodge #887, a member of Birmingham Metro York Rite Bodies, Zamora Shrine Temple and A&A Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

His greatest accomplishment was his family and the love and pride he had for them. Along with his wife, Bartie, he is survived by his children, Tammy Pope (Willie), Michele Acton (Bill Blackburn), Shayne Acton (Angela), and Kelley Whatley (Howard); seven grandchildren, Coleman Pope, Morgan Pope Milstead (Andy), Mallory Pope, Trey Whatley, Autumn Acton, Thomas Whatley, and Hunter Acton; one great-grandson, John William Milstead; and four grand dogs. He is preceded in death by his parents, Quitman & Maggie Acton and his sister, Billie June Acton Meads.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home (Hoover) with services following at 11:00 AM, Dr. Gary Fenton, Pastor of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church officiating. Burial to follow at Acton Memorial Cemetery. The family would like to thank and extend their deepest gratitude to Beth, Teri, David, Azandra, and Sherrie with Hope Hospice for their care, love and support.
