Fred E. "Doc" Johnson, Ph. D., J.D.

May 30, 1935 — October 9, 2021

Born in Alabaster, Fred later attended LSU and served in the Marine Corps before attending the University of Alabama earning a Master's Degree in Public Finance. While completing the Ph. D. program, he relocated his family to Birmingham to teach Economics at UAB where he retired. Fred later earned his J.D.
He spent his later years doting on his beloved wife, and spending precious time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many golfing buddies.
He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Annie and "Tige," and brother Bobby. He is survived by 2 brothers, Doyle and Jim; sister, Shirley Nelms; his loving wife, Sylvia; 3 children, Pamela Rau (Larry), Phillip Johnson (Mary) and Kelly Smith. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from 1 to 2 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
