Fred Sanders

Mr. Fred Vonell Sanders, 86, of Birmingham, AL born on March 1, 1933, passed away on January 11, 2020. Fred was dedicated to his family, church, and community. He graduated from Childersburg High School in 1951. He graduated from Auburn University in 1954. He was married to Barbara Nell Owings for sixty-two years. They moved to Seattle, Washington in 1955, where he served in the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant. He worked as a phone company engineer for thirty-four years and as an engineering contractor for fifteen years. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church for fifty-two years where he was a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and Choir Member. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Nell Owings Sanders; parents, Spurgeon Sanders and Iris Sanders; brother, Dewey Sanders (wife-Jean Sanders); and sister, Clara Bowling (husband-Henry Bowling). He is survived by his son, Alan Sanders; daughter, Penny Grimes (husband-Jeffery Grimes, MD); Alan’s children, Kelley White (husband-Walter White), Diamond Jordan (husband Shawn Jordan), and Molley Sanders; Penny’s children, Jessica Poinsot, DO (husband-Alexandre Poinsot), Jeremiah Grimes, Joshua Grimes (wife-Allie Grimes, MD), Jason Grimes, Jonathan Grimes, and Jillian Grimes; Alan’s grandchildren, Summer White, Brooke White, Madelyn Jordan, James Jordan, Ryker White, and Alaina Jordan; and Fred’s Brother, Leonard Sanders (wife-Lynn Sanders). A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Lakeside Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 2:00pm from the church sanctuary with Dr. Greg Corbin officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens South in Hoover, AL.
