Frank Orla Hinckley, age 87, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2005. He was a retired faculty member of theUniversity of Alabama. Prior to his position at the University he was Director of Training at the Baptist Health Systems. He moved to Alabama in 1972 after his retirement from the United States Air Force with the rank of Colonel. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corp. He flew forty one combat missions in the Pacific Theater as navigator on bomber aircraft. He received the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and Legion of Merit – USAF. He was active in the community. He was Alabama Goodwill Industries Volunteer of the Year Award 2001; Alabama Senior Citizen Hall of Fame, 1993; Southeastern Association of Area Agencies in Aging, Excellence in Aging Award 1992; Outstanding Business Private Industry Council Member 1991; Chairman of Alabama Commission on Aging 1987-1993; Chairman of Alabama Silver-Haired Legislature Development Committee 1991-93; Chairman of Government Action Committee, Birmingham Chamber of Commerce; Member of Business Council of Alabama; Distinguished Professor Award at the University of Alabama; National Torch Award recipient from the American Society for Training and Development; Board Member for Alabama Gerontological Society, Alabama Quality Assurance Foundation, Executive Committee of Florida Medical Quality Assurance Inc., Birmingham Positive Maturity, and UAB Center for Aging. Mr. Hinckley is survived by his wife of sixty three years Bernice Hinckley, Hoover, AL; his daughter Patricia Hinckley, Wilkes-Barre, PA; his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Deborah Hinckley, Alabaster, AL; and his brother and sister-in-law Tom and Gerry Hinckley, Ormand Beach, FL. Services will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2005, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy. 150, Hoover, with Jim Profetto officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Alabama Goodwill Industries. Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home directing.
