Frances Hammonds

Frances Caroline Upchurch Hammonds, of Birmingham, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at age 98. Mrs. Hammonds was born March 11, 1918, in Anson County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Lawson Rush Upchurch and Annie Mae Mills Upchurch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. O.B. "BO" Hammonds.

She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Carpenter (Darrell) of Gastonia, North Carolina; her sons, Dr. David Hammonds (Sandra Norris Hammonds) of Peachtree, Georgia, and Dr. Michael Hammonds (Dr. Lynn Smith Hammonds) of Birmingham, Alabama; her grandchildren, Derek Carpenter, Anders Carpenter, Andrea Shiraef, Alison Brown and Laura Hammonds; and six great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 14, 2017, from 10-11 AM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. Her Celebration of Life Ceremony will follow at 11 AM in the Chapel. Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017, at 2 PM at the Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis N.C. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis N.C. on Monday from 1:30 PM until 2 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lakeside Baptist Church W.M.U.
