of Jackson's Gap, AL, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2009, at the age of 82. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ike Britton; two sons, Rip Britton (Vera) of Birmingham and Rob Britton (Beth) of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Rip III, John Harris, Robert Davis, Scott and Sam Britton; one brother; Ruel Russell, Jr. (Margaret) of Birmingham; also, numerous brothers-in-laws and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews; and many dear and loving friends at the lake. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruel and Kate Russell; and a sister, Katie Lane Russell Jones. She was a graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Home Economics. Mrs. Britton taught school for several years at New Merkle Elementary School, then worked for many years as office manager at Atlas Metals. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dadeville and prior to that she was a member of Ensley Baptist Church. She was a long-time resident of Midfield, AL before she and Ike retired to Lake Martin. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at 11 AM in Elmwood Cemetery, with Rev. Gary Wiggins officiating.Following the service, a lunch and visitation will be held at the home of Rip and Vera Britton.
