Fay Smith

95, of Hoover, passed away on September 22, 2012. Fay lived in Vernon AL for 93 years and she always considered Vernon home. She was a life-long member of Vernon First United Methodist Church. Fay had a long career as a sixth-grade school teacher, principal, and social worker in Lamar County. Fay was well known and much loved throughout the county. Many of her students stayed in touch and always thanked her for being such a wonderful and loving teacher. Fay is survived by her son Herschel David Smith, daughter-in-law Colette Smith, nephew Banks Robertson and spouse Mary Ruth, and niece Beth Jacobs. Fay always loved Colette's extended family as her own. Fay had many friends that she also thought of as family. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 2 PM in the Currie-Jefferson funeral home chapel, 2701 John Hawkins Pkwy (Hwy 150)Hoover AL. Visitation will begin at 12 noon. A private burial will follow in the Vernon City cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
