Evelyn Miller

age 83, of Birmingham, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 29, 2008. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was known for her warmth, charm, strength and courage. Mrs. Miller was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania to the late, George Elias and Frankie Margaret Griffiths. She resided in Bluff Park and was retired as a bookkeeper from Miller, Stabler and Smith. She was an active member of Vestavia Hills Lutheran Church for 45 years. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, J. R. (Bob) Miller, a WW II veteran who passed away in 1990; and her sister, Elinor Margaret Derringer. She is survived by a daughter, Denise M. Whitefield and her husband, Chuck; a son, Robert Kevin Miller and his wife, Becky; four grandsons, Justin Griffiths Miller (Natalie), Brad McKinley Whitfield, Ryan Courtney Miller and Jared David Miller; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lyessa Miller; a great granddaughter, Evelyn Elizabeth Miller; a brother, George Elwyn Griffiths of Rome, GA; a nephew, Thomas R. Derringer (Judy); three great nieces, Tonya Derringer Annis, Allison Derringer and Leah Derringer; and a great nephew, Dax Derringer. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 3, 2008, from 1:00-2:30 PM at Vestavia Hills Lutheran Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 PM at the church, with Pastor Charles Pieplow officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Vestavia Hills Lutheran Church Missions Fund.
