Mrs. Evelyn Amanda McCrory Butler, of Hoover, died Monday, January 24, 2011, at the age of 86. She was born March 23, 1924 to the late Harry Lee and Elliotte Stockard McCrory. Evelyn was the oldest of four children. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo E. Butler, in 1996, after a marriage of almost 51 years; her grandson, Christopher Armitage; and her sister-in-law, Barbara M. Goudreau. She is survived by her two beloved daughters, Sharon Evelyn Wyatt of Jackson, MS and Harriett Lee Armitage of Round Rock, TX. Also surviving are her brother, Alfred Ray McCrory of Rhode Island; sister, Clara M. Luna (Ben) of Northport, AL; two grandchildren, Tracy Lee Lyons (Adam) and Nicole Evelyn Wyatt; one great grandchild, Zachary Elliot Lyons; seven nephews; two nieces; and sister-in-law, Mardia Irby of Florence, AL. Evelyn received her education from Sheffield High School, Central High School (Florence, AL), and Florence State Teacher's College (now UNA). Her last employment was as a copy editor for the Progressive Farmer magazine. She was a long-time member of Shades Crest Baptist Church in Hoover, where she served in many capacities. Her main goals in life were to be a good Christian, a good wife, mother and grandmother, a good friend, and a good citizen. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:30, Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Hwy 150 in Hoover. Funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel, Rev. James Auchmuty. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
