Emmett Johnson

Mr. Emmett Raymond Johnson, of Birmingham, died Monday, January 31, 2001, at the age of 82. Born in Houston, TX. Emmett was a graudate of North Texas State University and received a masters degree in Hospital Administration from Northwestern University in 1952. He retired from Baptist Health System in 1994 after 19 years as Chief Executive Officer. A member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church, Emmett was a Life Deacon, Chairman of the Board of Deacons, and he taught a men's Bible study class. He was a lover of the outdoors, travel, running, his family, his church, and his work. Emmett was active in numerous leadership roles in the community and in the healthcare industry. He was predeceased by his parents and his twin brother, Mr. Rufus R. Johnson. Emmett is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna Belle Briggs Johnson; his children, Gay Lynn Johnson and Galen M. Johnson; one granddaughter, Barbara Leigh Anne Johnson of Dallas, TX; and brother, Johnny Johnson of Corpus Christi, TX. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 PM, Thursday, February 3, 2011, at the Mountain Brook Baptist Church, officiated by Senior Minister and friend, Dr. James Moebes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Mountain Brook Baptist Church, 3631 Montevallo Rd. South, Birmingham, AL 35213; Alzheimer's of Central Alabama, 300 Office Park Dr., Mountain Brook, AL 35223; or Baptist Health System Foundation, 3201 4th Ave South, Birmingham, AL 35222.
