Edgar Denton, Sr

Mr. Edgar Peyton "E.P." Denton, Sr., of Hoover, AL, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at the age of 87. Born in Powderly, AL on September 3, 1926, his first job was cutting grass at Standard Oil Company in Birmingham. He joined the Air Force at 17 years old in 1944. He was stationed in South America and when the war was over he went back to work for the Standard Oil Company and worked there for the next 44 years. E. P. taught Sunday School for 19 years at Hunter Street Baptist.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John David Denton and Ethel Mae Denton and brother, John David Denton.
He is survived by his wife, whom he met in Haleyville in 1951 and was married to for 62 years, Betty Denton, son, Edgar "Ed" Peyton Denton, Jr., daughter, Carol Barefield, brother, Harvey Denton, sister, Ann Denton Turner, grandchildren, Peyton Denton, Drew Denton, and Rachael Barefield, and great grandchild, Caleb Denton.
The family will receive friends Friday, August 22, 2014, from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home with a funeral service following a 10:30 AM in the chapel. Graveside services will be Friday, August 22, 2014, at 12:30 PM at Alabama National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hunter Street Baptist Church.
