Sigurd Franklin Bryan passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at the age of 96. He was preceded in death by his parents, Errol D. and Mamie L. (Self) Bryan, and his older brother, Wayne D. Bryan. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sara (Pate) Bryan, his daughter, Catherine Lawrence (David), his sister, Lillian McDonald, his younger brother, John L. Bryan, several nieces and nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Sigurd touched many lives during his 46-year teaching career in the Department of Religion and Philosophy at Samford University (1956-2002) and the accompanying decades of preaching and teaching in churches throughout Alabama. He will be remembered especially for his deep devotion to the Lord, his love of teaching the Bible, his genuine interest in everyone he met, and his kind and gentle demeanor. Sigurd loved people, his church (Shades Crest Baptist), music (especially hymns), good food, exercise, and laughter. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sigurd F. Bryan scholarship fund at Samford University, the Shades Crest Baptist Church ministry budget or 2020 challenge, or to the church or charitable organization of your choice.
