Dr. Orus Benett

BENNETT, DR. ORUS LAMAR, of Birmingham, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2009, at the age of 84. Dr. Bennett formerly directed the Agricultural Research Services lab in Beckley, WV. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Judy Bennett. He is survived by three sons, Gary L. Bennett (Kay), Don L. Bennett (Linda), and Alan G. Bennett (Jacquelin), all of Birmingham; six grandchildren, Brian, Kenneth, Samuel, Matthew, and Jessica Bennett, and Missy Manning; five great grandchildren, Cameron and Daulton Manning, Caleigh and Matthew Tooma, and Grace Ann Bennett; and one great great grandchild, Savannah Manning; one sister, Cleo McPherson; four brothers, Robert, Paul, Frank, and Gordon Bennett. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 20, 2009, from 12:30 – 2:30 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on HWY 150 in Hoover. Funeral service will follow at 2:30 PM in the funeral home chapel, Dr. Stanley Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
