It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our beloved father, grandfather, and husband, Dr. Noel P. Ligason of Guntersville, Alabama has sadly passed away. Not a local man by any means, he was born in the Philippines and as a young man left there in order to pursue his dreams. Eventually, he would become a U.S. citizen and settle down in his adopted state of Alabama where he would also raise his small family. With a degree in veterinary medicine, he sought and found employment with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and would spend 41 years of his professional life with them as a dedicated federal employee.
He interacted very well with people who started out as strangers to him but over time, would become his friends in the long run. He could easily win people over with his sense of humor, kindness, and generosity. Such a giving person as he was, he would gladly make monetary donations to St. William Catholic Church in Guntersville and when given the opportunity, he would donate his time to help support their annual seafood festival. Despite being an avid deer hunter, he also had a love for animals which was proven by the yearly donations he would make to ASPCA.
As a great believer in education, he would have many scholars in the Philippines to have sponsored with all of his effort and investments when provided. “Study well and learn well. For you are working for your future.” Dr. Noel Ligason.
Dr. Noel is survived by his former wife, Julie M. Ligason, his loved daughters; JoAnne Ligason and May Jungkind also his cherished grandchildren, Maci Jungkind and Amy Jungkind; his brothers, Vicente Ligason, Ramon Ligason, Jr.; his sisters, Ofelia Demonteverde, Noeme Taupo and Lourdes Balthazar, as well as cousins, aunts, uncles, and countless nieces and nephews.
Noel is preceded in death by his mother, Concordia Pajarito, his father, Ramon I. Ligason, Sr. and his brother, Gualberto Ligason.
“ Thank you, Dad, for all that you have done and given us. May you continue to guide us from Heaven as we try to move forward in this life without you. You are deeply loved and will always be sorely missed. May God rest your soul.” Your loving children.
