Dr. Milan Tomana, of Hoover, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at the age of 81. He was born June 7, 1932 in Olomouc, Czechoslovakia. For nearly 40 years, Dr. Tomana was employed at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as a Professor in the Medical School and in research, retiring from the Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Linda Tomana; 2 sons, Jara Tomana and Merik Tomana (Lisa); a daughter, Julie Wooten (Derek); 10 grandchildren; and 2 cousins, Helga Redlberger and family of Vienna, and Vlasta Lichtenberkova of Kostelec nad Orlici. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hoover. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 AM, Rev. Joy Nellissery officiating. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Brian Adler and his staff for their remarkable care and kindness. The family prefers donations be made to Lakeshore Foundation. They brightened Milan's life considerably over the years.
