Dr. George Allison, 91, of Helena, AL passed away on July 24, 2020. Dr. Allison was born on November 2, 1928 in Oklahoma. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Marine Corp. After serving for two years, Dr. Allison attended Oklahoma State University, and then went on to Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, where he met Marygene. "It was love at first sight," said George. He went on to earn his Doctorate of Theology. During this time, George and Marygene welcomed three wonderful children. He was named full time preacher at Raleigh Avenue Baptist Church and First Baptist Oneonta. It wasn't too long after that the Baptist Missions Board assigned them to Vicenza, Italy where they worked with the Army. In later years, Geroge would take Riverchase Baptist Mission and form Riverchase Baptist Church. From there, he moved to First Baptist Bessemer, and eventually retired in 1993. As retirees, George and Marygene joined Hunter Street Baptist Church, where he served as Minister of Senior Adults.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lona Allison; brother, Frank Allison; and sister, Geraldine Stevenson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marygene King Allison; sons, Mike, Joe, and John; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will begin at 10:00am at Hunter Street Baptist Church with Dr. Edwin Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
