of Hoover, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the age of 64. She was born and raised in Homewood and was a graduate of Shades Valley High School, class of 1963. Dr. Manning graduated Auburn University where she received her B.S. and Masters Degree and then received her Doctorate Degree from U.A.B. She started her career as a grammar school teacher and worked with both the City of Birmingham and the State of Alabama Department of Education. Dr. Manning was an Assistant Principal of Vestavia Hills High School when she retired. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, James O. Manning of Hoover; a son, David Shawn Manning and wife Charlotte P. of Vestavia; a brother, Phil Tully and wife Dian of Carrolton, GA; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 23, 2009, from 5-7 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150, Hoover. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 24, 2009, at 1 PM in the funeral home chapel, with Dr. C. Phillip Huckaby officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
