Douglas Vinson

Mr. Douglas Wayne Vinson, of Birmingham, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at the age of 63. He graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1971. He is also a graduate of the University of Alabama and UAB. He is a retired school teacher who had taught at Hewitt-Trussville High School, Thompson High School, Theodore High School, and Simmons Middle School. He was an avid sailor, white water kayaker, loved music and math and touched many lives. He is preceded in death by a brother, David Vinson.

He is survived by his amor, his wife, Egla Nora Vinson; his children, Cory and Abby Vinson, Nathan Richey, and David and Juliana Richey; his grandson, Juan Esteban, a brother, Michael Vinson; Nieces and Nephews, Daniel and James Vinson, Alec Ferris, Kelsey Davis and Misty Mayes Nelson.

A memorial service will be held at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at 11:00AM. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00AM in the Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, family request donations be made to Hazelrig-Salter Radiation Oncology Center, 1700 6th Ave. S., Birmingham, AL 35233.
