age 88, was born into eternal life with the Lord April 11, 2008. Raised in Birmingham, she was a graduate of West End High School and a member of the Delta Phi Delta Sorority. At the Pickwick Club, her dance card was always full and all watched when she danced with her brother, Jim. In 1941, Dorothy married and devoted her life to her family. Devotion to her faith and her church, St. Francis Xavier, was evident in her service to the Seniors Ministry and her membership in St. Martha's Band. Above all else, she was the guintessence of selflessness. Her perpetual smile always accompanied her giving heart and helping hand. A loving mother and a true blessing as a grandmother will be her legacy. Her passing has left a void never to be filled, but we console ourselves striving to follow in her footsteps. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Gabriel Canfield; her husband Talmage Dewitt Stephens, a daughter, Janet King; a brother, Jim Canfield; and a sister; Clara Rock. Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Mary E. Deering; five grandchildren, Kam, Sandi, Sean, Jim and Mary Theresa; nine great-grandchildren; and a great great-grandchild. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 28, 2008, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
