Donna Thompson Speegle, 75, of Trussville went to her heavenly home on March 19, 2021. Donna was born January 21, 1946. After graduating salutatorian of her class at Hewitt-Trussville High School, Donna pursued a degree in education at Auburn University and later achieved two master’s degrees, including one in library science. Donna enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a librarian in public libraries and in school settings.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Marie Thompson and is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Wayne Speegle, two daughters Lisa Whittington (Wilson) and Laurie Morrison (Jeff) and many grandchildren- Laura, Mary Grace, Samantha, Caroline, John Lem, and a new baby on the way, as well as her two brothers Wayne (Jackie) and Glen (Pat) Thompson and a niece, nephews, and cousins.
Donna is remembered for her abiding faith in her heavenly father and her active involvement in First Lutheran Church. She loved to travel, read, and volunteer her time in many clubs and organizations. She was a loyal friend and servant to all.
Services will be Monday, March 22nd. A private family graveside service will be held at Currie-Jefferson Memorial Garden South. A public visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 pm at First Lutheran Church followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 pm at the church. Masks are encouraged.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in honor of Donna Speegle to First Lutheran Church-2507 Highland Avenue, Birmingham, AL 35205. The service will also be livestreamed on the First Lutheran Birmingham channel on YouTube (see firstlutheranbham.org for link).
