Don Ed Hicks, age 91, passed away on July 24, 2018. A native of Jericho (later Heiberger), Alabama, Don proudly served his country in WWII, returning home to graduate from the University of Alabama in 1951. He was a pioneer in the computer industry, developing the Data Processing Center for the Southeast Region of State Farm Insurance. An active life-long United Methodist he served as a leader and lay speaker in several area churches, most notably Hoover First United Methodist. Don’s great loves were God, his family, his country, and the University of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father, Don Hicks; mother, Minnie Lee Hicks; and sisters, Yvonne Hicks and Ruby Hicks Lovelady.
Don is survived by his wife of 70 years, Geraldine Anthony Hicks; son, Larry Hicks (Anna); daughter, Donna Owen (Ted); sisters, Mary Dane Owen and Lenta Campbell; grandchildren, Marsha Woodall, Jennifer Schleger (Michael), Michael Tiffin (Dawn), Rob Tiffin, and Mary Vega (Alex); as well as six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 28, 2018, from 10-11 AM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will follow in the chapel at 11 AM, Rev. Lonna Lynn Higgs officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to The United Methodist Children’s Home of Alabama and Northwest Florida, www.umch.net.
