Donald Ray Palmer

Don Palmer, 88, passed peacefully from this side of the green into Heaven while residing at Shelby Ridge Nursing Home in Alabaster, Alabama. Don graduated in the 1953 class of Bessemer High School. In 1957 he completed a BA in Church Music from Samford University and then attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he pursued a master's degree in music. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1960 and after completing basic training was posted to Fort Jackson North Carolina with an overseas posting to France.
After being honorably discharged in 1962, he married Jeanelle Stalcup of Birmingham and began his full-time ministry as a Music and Youth Minister. He and Jeanelle served the Lord in various churches in Alabama and Georgia. Don loved to teach music to all ages and to lead others in worship using many styles of music, but hymns were always his favorite. He also worked as a financial consultant for 20 years where he enjoyed meeting people and helping them reach their planning and investment goals. He was preceded in death by Jeanelle in 2007 after 45 years of marriage together. Don was also preceded in death by his father and mother, George and Faustina Palmer, and two sisters, Marylyn Palmer and Doris Palmer.
He is survived by his three children - Melonie Palmer, Robbie (Lewanne) Palmer and Chris Palmer; five grandchildren who called him PawPaw - Nathan (Erin) Palmer of Dallas Texas, Rachel (Mitchell) Herron of Montgomery Alabama, Joshua (Sydny) Palmer of Virginia Beach Virginia, Micah Palmer of Quantico Virginia, and Elijah Palmer of Jemison Alabama.
The family will receive friends on Monday. February 5 between 1:00 - 2:00 pm at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Hwy 150 in Hoover, Alabama. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Bill Harper and Rev. Michael Brook presiding. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
