of Hoover, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2012 at the age of 83. He was a proud University of Alabama graduate and a U.S. Air Force Veteran during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church and a retired Medical Supply salesman for a number of years. Mr. Lonergan was a skilled wood craftsman and known for his carved walking sticks. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Duval. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Lonergan; a son, Joel C. Lonergan (Terry); a daughter, Cindy L. Smith; his twin brother, Ronald C. Lonergan (Diane); 5 grandchildren, Kristen Jobes (Dale), Britney Deutschendorf (Lee), J. Covin Lonergan Jr., Colin Smith (Holly) and Walker Smith; and 4 great grandchildren, Grayson, Porter, Carson and Marley. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 14, 2012 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Marion Eubanks officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Green Valley Baptist Church Building Fund.
