Donald Lee Helton passed away October 9th , 2022 at age 68. He was born in Midfield, AL on December 27th, 1953. He graduated from Hueytown High School in 1972. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Johnnie Helton and his brother Leslie Helton. He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Dawn VanWanderham Helton; son, Lee(Jamey); daughters, Amanda and Ashleigh; and granddaughter, Brookleigh.
He was a Mason and former member of the Central Park Lodge 808 where he became a worshipful master. As a former Shriner and member of the Zamora Clown Unit he brought joy to children at local festivals and hospitals in cities everywhere. Don was an enthusiast of many hobbies, including gun collecting and all motor sports, a member of RC Flyers of Leeds, and a certified scuba and salvage diver.
He was extremely witty, funny, loved to tell stories and he never met a stranger having the ability to relate to anyone he met. He would drop everything at the drop of a hat if it meant helping someone in need. He was self-taught in countless trades and was always the willing teacher to anyone who wanted to learn. He had a strong work ethic and could do anything, his proudest moment being the owner/operator of Cleaners and Laundry Equipment Company. Always ahead of his time, he knew all about technology and retired as an IT Network Specialist.
A memorial service will be held at Currie-Jefferson Memorial in Hoover, AL on October 14, 2022 at 2:00P.M. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to: American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org
