On Wednesday, January 15, 2020, Donald Earl Frederick, dedicated husband and father of 3 children passed away at the age of 89.
Don was born on October 10, 1930. He attended the University of Cincinnati in the Engineering Program and went on to join the Armed Forces. In his career, he was a Production Manager in the rail car industry for Pullman Standard where he thrived on being a problem solver. With an amazing level of concentration, there was no problem too big or too small for Don. He married Donna Joann Emrick and they proudly raised two daughters, Pam and Sandi and one son, David. Don was extremely proud of all his children. Don’s friends were quick to say what a proud father he was; he carried pictures in his wallet and was always ready to pull them out to show off. Don also had a lighter side. There were many stories around the Thanksgiving or card table about jokes they played on coworkers over the years just to lighten the workday. One of his favorite things as a young boy was chasing his Mom around with a bug he dug up (of course she was terrified of bugs). He was also an extremely talented craftsman. He spent many of his afternoons as a youngster hanging out in the workshop with his grandfather where he picked up amazing woodworking skills; which he translated into a lucrative custom furniture business in his retirement years. A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 3, 2020 at 1:00 PM.
Don was preceded in death by his father Earl, his mother Florence and his wife Donna.
He is survived by his three children Pam and Leland Slay, Sandi and Mike Marler, and David Frederick, his grandchildren Jerrod (Catherine) Slay, Melissa Lane, Tyler Frederick and Stacey Lane, and his great-grandson Craft Slay, his sister Norma Nossokoff and his nephews Doug and Mark Nossokoff. With his passing, the family is proud to celebrate Don’s life with graveside service to be held on Monday, February 3, 2020 at 1:00 PM. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South Hwy 150, Hoover.
