Don Edward Hathaway, age 78 passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022,
he was born August 30, 1943 to Jovita and Don Ruston Hathaway. Don was a devoted husband, a father of three children and one granddaughter. He served with honor in the U.S. Army as well as a Vietnam Veteran, Don became a “master’ skydiver, completing well over 700 jumps and was a longtime member of the Birmingham Parachute Club. If anyone was a around Don for more than a minute, he or she would find out quickly that he had a passion for fishing. It did not matter if it was day or night, hot or cold, he loved fishing. Don was a Deacon at McCalla Baptist Church, he became a “master electrician” after leaving the U.S. Army and in fact he worked temporarily at the Knott’s Berry Farm Amusement Park in California. He grew up and continued the tradition of being a twelve month out of the year fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide Football team, above all else, he taught his family about discipline, devotion and care one another. There is no one that Don would not help, he gave to so many. We all were intrigued to here about his stories, whether it was skiing in Alaska, moose hunting, parachuting from all heights, deep sea fishing, water skiing on one ski, to just being “Dad” He will be greatly be missed.
“A father is a man who expects his children to be as good as he meant to be.” “There’s no shame in fear, my father told me, what matters is how we face it.” “Daddies don’t just love their children every now and then, it’s a love without end.” “What you teach your children, you also teach their children”
