He was born April 25,1945 in Panama City, Fla., to E.P. and Grace Evelyn Rea Gaut, who later moved to Tuscaloosa, Ala., were David attended public schools and graduated from Tuscaloosa City High School. He was in U.S. Marine, he served in Okinawa, Japan from 1963 to 1966.
David traveled twice to Vetnam he was thankful that he did not have to face what the other soldiers were on the ground.
David retired after 35 years of service to Norfolk-Southern Railroad and sold real estate for Realty South. He lived in Helena, Alabama but recently moved to Santa Rosa, Florida. .
David was well-known for his friendliness, his ready smile and wonderful sense of humor.
David was 32nd degree Scottish rite, at age 34 he served as Worshipful Master of the Birmala Masonic Lodge in Birmingham and was a member of the Independent Presbyterian Church in Birmingham.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Wyatt Gaut of Santa Rosa Beach; one son, Michael David Gault (spouse Jennifer Ausbun Gault) of Birmingham, AL; three brothers, Rea Gault (spouse Juanita "Vicky") of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Mark Gaut (spouse Faye), Pelham Gaut Jr., and one sister, Susan Wyatt of Chilton County. Robert "Biff" Wyatt Jr. his beloved brother-in-law. Numerous nephews and nieces plus great nephews and nieces whom he loved dearly.
Visitation will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 10, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, followed by funeral services and interment in the adjoining memorial gardens. Officiating will be the Rev. Susan Clayton, associate pastor of Independent Presbyterian.
In Lieu of flowers, the request donations to Shriner's hospitals, St. Jude's Hospital, or Independent Presbyterian charities.
Family would like to thank all the wonderful family and friends who supported them during this time.
