David Arnold, Sr

of Hoover, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2007. He was born in Rocky Mount, NC on November 26, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Jacob Arnold; a sister, Mavis Arnold Dunn; and a brother, Edsel Arnold. Mr. Arnold was retired from CSX Transportation where he served 44 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the U.S. Army. He served on the Board of Directors of Jefferson State Junior College and was an active member of Shades Valley Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Arnold; two sons, Terry Robbins of Peachtree City, GA and Joel Arnold, Jr. of Birmingham; a daughter, Allison Shannon (Donald) of Hoover; five grandchildren, Todd Andrew Arnold, Mary Elizabeth Arnold, Ryan Patrick Shannon, Cameron Scott Shannon and William Connor Shannon; three brothers, James H. Arnold, Jake Arnold and Gene Arnold; and a sister, Geraldine Byrne all of Rocky Mount, NC. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2007, at 11:00 AM at Shades Valley Lutheran Church, 720 Shades Creek Parkway, Homewood. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 10, 2007, from 6 to 8 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Shades Valley Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
