Darrin Lee VanLandingham, 53, of Hoover passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 2, 2018, at his home. He was born in Geneva, AL on January 19, 1965. He was a graduate of Geneva High School Class of 1983 where he played football and Troy University Class of 1988 where he studied business and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Social Fraternity. He attended Hunter Street Baptist Church and Church of the Highlands. Darrin was full of life. He was an ardent Alabama fan and enjoyed his motorcycle and boating. He was a devoted and loving husband and father and his favorite activity was spending time with his family and beloved dogs. Darrin worked in food sales for his entire career including positions with Sysco and Performance Food Group, where he spent the last nine years as an Area Manager. He truly cared for his customers and built solid friendships with them. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Randall VanLandingham.
Darrin is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jessica VanLandingham; his daughters, Kylie Brianne (18) and Morgan Grace VanLandingham (16); mother-in-law, Marie Watford; sister, Patti Phipps (Dennis) of Geneva, AL; niece, Linsey Phipps, DNP (Jay) of Hoover; nephew, Chase Phipps of Murfreesboro, TN; brother, Kevin VanLandingham (Kelly) of Blacksburg, SC; nephew, Cole VanLandingham of Williamsburg, VA; niece, Ceara VanLandingham; and great-nephew, Malik VanLandingham also of Blacksburg, SC.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 6, 2018, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Hunter Street Baptist Church - Chapel with a service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home & Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. Friends are invited to the family home afterwards to continue sharing their memories of Darrin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a favorite charity of Darrin’s.
