age 23, of Hoover, passed away on Friday, August 3, 2007. Dane was a 2002 graduate of Hoover High School. He was a member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church, where he played bass guitar in the worship band. He was adored and respected by countless children, whom he worked with as a counselor at Camp Sumatanga for many years. He brought joy to all around him with his humor, and yet touched a deeper part of us with his poetry and songwriting. Dane is survived by his parents, Juli Birdyshaw of Hoover, and George Birdyshaw (Teresa) of Hoover; girlfriend, Heather Lange of Hoover; brother, Troy Birdyshaw (Ventrese) of McCalla; sister Tara Birdyshaw of Vestavia Hills; step-sister, Stacey Sickmiller (Mark) of Helena; step-brother Jimmy Wallace of Maylene; grandfather Jim Hooker, Sr. of Tampa, FL; uncles, Jim Hooker, Jr. of Birmingham, Lance Hooker (Barbara) of Germany, and John Hooker of Tampa; niece, Sara Stone of Helena; nephews, Daniel and Dillon Stone of Helena; and cousins Kati and Will Watkins of Mountain Brook, Shawn and John David Hooker, Jr. of Tampa. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 5, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held at the church on Monday, August 6, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Billy Curtis and Rev. Sherry Harris officiating.
