Cyrus Hughen

Mr. Cyrus (Cy) Spurgeon Hughen, age 94, of the Bluff Park community in Hoover, Alabama, passed away on May 25, 2015.
Cy (as he was known to all) was born November 17, 1920 in rural Coosa County, Alabama, to Eunice and Marvin Hughen, who precede him in death. He proudly served his country in World War II. He graduated from Jones Law School (now part of Faulkner University) in Montgomery Alabama, served many more years in the Army Reserve, had a lengthy career with Social Security and, in “retirement”, ran the Birmingham regional office of Positive Maturity, helping folks find work in their later years. Cy was married to Eloise Hughen who precedes him in death. Their love was deep and sustained. They were married in Bankston, Alabama in 1948. Eloise passed away in 2008.
Cy was the oldest of four children. He is preceded in death by sister Alice Ruth Stinson, brother-in-law Archie Stinson, sister Mary Francis Logan and brother-in-law Melvin Logan, and sister Lillie Elma Hughen.
He is survived by his son, Anthony of Prattville, Alabama, along with Anthony’s daughter Lindsay Langford, husband Allen Langford and great-grandchildren Maggie and Hughston, all of Hartford, Alabama. He is also survived by son, David of Austin, Texas, daughter-in-law Charisse and their children Kelsey and Christopher. Finally, he is survived by his daughter, Ann Fritz of Des Moines, Iowa, son-in-law Brent Fritz, their son, Kyle Fritz of Midland, Georgia and his wife Jing Fritz.
The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, May 30, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for visitation in advance of the funeral service to be held from 11:00 a.m. to noon at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. Graveside service to immediately follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Cyrus Hughen to Shades Crest Baptist Church, 452 Park Ave, Hoover, AL 35226, in support of its church building fund.
