Cynthia Argo

January 8, 1951 — October 4, 2009

ARGO, CYNTHIA BISHOP, of Pelham, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009, at the age of 58. Cynthia was born on January 8, 1951, the second of four children. She laughed the first time her mother held her, and everyone knows she's been laughing ever since. She attended Shades Valley High School and Graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Sociology. Cynthia married Terry C. Argo in 1974 and they were blessed with two children, Jennifer Argo Clay and Joshua Bishop Argo. Cynthia worked for Social Security in the Disability Claims Review unit. Her career lasted thirty-four years, retiring only because of ongoing health issues. Over the years she sacrificed her free time to do things for her family. She always made homemade dinners, stayed up until midnight going over homework, carpooled kids, aided in fundraisers, and sat through countless soccer games, school performances, and track meets. Unfortunately she never got the chance to enjoy her retirement. For the last ten years life has proven that her mind, spirit, and heart were just too big for the small body she was given. After years of health problems, her physical body lost an eight-year battle to a rare Sarcoma cancer, and Cynthia died Sunday evening at home surrounded by her loved ones. However, her spirit and soul were victorious. She fought courageously, never giving up, and during all of her struggles, she never lost her sense of humor and her ability to laugh. To the end of her life her greatest concern was always the well-being of those she loved. She was selfless in devotion and service to her friends and family. For the many that made her acquaintance and her small group of good friends, her passing will leave a huge void and we will all miss her cheerful laugh. God grant us the peace she would want all of us to share. She is preceded in death by her father, Clarence Bishop, Jr. and brother, Clarence Bishop III. Cynthia is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Terry C. Argo; son, Joshua Bishop Argo of Memphis, TN; daughter, Jennifer Argo Clay (Adam) and grand-dog of Indian Springs; her mother, Phyllis Bishop; and sisters, Rosemary Hopkins, and Jill Dollid. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM, Saturday, October 10, 2009, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Hwy 150 in Hoover. Funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. The family requests donations in Cynthia's name to SARC, Sarcoma Alliance for Research through Collaboration, 24 Frank Lloyd Wright Drive, PO Box 406 Ann Arbor, MI 48106.
